Haiti's terrain is largely rough and mountainous, but the country is also known for its white, sandy beaches.  It has a total area of 27,750 sq. km., with 27,560 sq. km. of land mass and 190 sq. km. of water mass.  It shares the island of Hispaniola with Dominican Republic (western one-third is Haiti, eastern two-thirds is the Dominican Republic)
